 Carl M. Nelson is Senior Vice President of Development & Construction for COPT Development and Construction Services, a division of Corporate Office Properties Trust (COPT). Carl leads our combined development and construction disciplines on a large share of our portfolio.
Carl brings more than 30 years of progressive experience in development and construction management to COPT. From 1998 to present, he has directed and managed the development and construction of 35+ projects and over four million square feet of office space.
From 1988 to 1998, Carl was Manager of Construction for Potomac Capital Investment Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of PEPCO. He provided development services for various commercial, residential, and alternative energy projects, including build-to-suit offices, development of residential communities, and hydroelectric and solar powered generating stations. From 1978 to 1988, Carl was Senior Construction Manager for PEPCO and Burns & Roe. He supervised major civil, mechanical and electrical contracts for the construction and maintenance of fossil fueled power plants.
Carl earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the University of Maryland. In addition, Carl is an Accredited LEED Professional. Carl is active in a number of professional and civic organizations including NAIOP and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He coordinated the United Way Campaign at COPT for six years and is currently a member of the Howard County UW Partnership Board. Carl is a 2003 graduate of Leadership Howard County and serves as President of his Homeowner's Association.
