Corporate Social Responsibility
At COPT, our corporate social responsibility initiatives are integrated with our core values and vision. We demonstrate our commitment to the communities in which we live, work and serve in a variety of ways:
Commitment to Sustainability
In 2003, COPT made the commitment to design and construct every new building to meet or exceed LEED Silver certification standards for sustainability in core and shell design. We believe it is the right thing to do for the environment, our shareholders and our tenants. Now we have a number of sustainability initiatives underway that reach across all parts of the organization.
COPT is a member of the US Green Building Council as well as Businesses for the Bay, a voluntary team of companies that support pollution
prevention within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. We purchased renewable energy credits for our corporate headquarters building, which helps avoid more than two million pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. Additionally, our headquarters building is registered for LEED Existing Building certification and our headquarters interior space is LEED Silver certified.
Volunteerism
COPT employees donate thousands of hours each year to nonprofit organizations in the communities in which we operate. This activism reinforces our "Vision 2025" goal to be a leading contributor in improving the fabric of the communities where we live, work and serve.
Charitable Contributions
Employees who are actively involved in and/or supportive of charities can request a corporate contribution to the organization from COPT. This program allows employees to involve COPT in the organizations that are close to their hearts. In 2009, we supported approximately 100 organizations throughout our geographic locations.
